Happy Friday! In Monday’s post I mentioned I’m back from my trip to Colorado and let me just tell you it was wonderful! Although it wasn’t a very long trip, but it was definitely relaxing, fun, and cold. Our trip started with an early flight Wednesday morning and a bit of a workout at the airport, walking running from the parking garage to the gate. We landed in Denver at about 12 pm and the first thing I see out the window is snow, yay!
We made our way to baggage claim and then headed to get our car rental. The drive from Denver to Woodland Park was great, there was snow covering the tall trees and the mountains of course. It took about two hours with our coffee and grocery store stops. We arrived at the house, or The Green Elk Lodge as they call it. We unloaded the car and had some food to settle in. Why is traveling so exhausting, maybe I’m just not doing it right lol.
By the way altitude sickness is a real thing. I had a headache and felt terrible the first night there. I eventually felt better but wish I had prepared for this – note for a future trip. For this trip we didn’t make any real plans. We started each morning with coffees and breakfast then decided what we wanted to do that day. Sometimes that seems to work out better than making plans for every second of the day.
On Saturday we visited Pikes Peak, which was such a great time, the views were breathtaking! The drive takes about 2 – 3 hours depending on the stops you make. The views on the way up are incredible, snow everywhere you look and eventually feels like you’re in the clouds. Doesn’t get any better than that.
If you’re not a fan of heights I suggest you don’t look down as you make your way up lol. Along the way we stopped at the Historic Glen Cove Inn, they have souvenirs, drinks, ice cream, and other snacks. We kept going after our stop and made it up to mile marker 19, we weren’t allowed to go further because of weather conditions but it was an incredible time either way.
Our trip ended on Sunday. It felt like we had been there for a day, so sad it went by so fast but I’m excited to visit some place new next time!
The Airbnb we stayed at was incredible! With amazing views.
Pikes Peak is a must if you find yourself near there. Make sure you wear many many layers for this! A long sleeve shirt and coat will not cut it!
Are you taking any trips this year? If so, where are you going? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for reading along!
